The goal of S2N2 is to increase awareness of and participation in SMD missions and Education/Public Outreach (E/PO) programs by creating collaborative pipelines between educators, scientists, and anyone who works with an E/PO program. S2N2 facilitates cross-support of various groups (formal and informal education, space scientists, general public, clubs, service organizations, etc.) and provides opportunities for them to work together. S2N2 also acts as a clearinghouse for SMD mission information and related education products throughout the Northwest. SMD is the branch of NASA responsible for solar system and earth science missions, astrobiology and space science research satellites such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the Chandra X-ray Observatory.

S2N2, as a Broker/Facilitator for the Northwest region, aims to have a strong presence in each of the partner states. The Space Grant program in each of these states hosts S2N2 operations and activities. Thus it is possible to match up the needs and desires of educators and NASA scientists in each state with the opportunities available from SMD E/PO.

S2N2 provides a range of services. NASA scientists interested in E/PO programs can contact S2N2 to learn about opportunities and possible partners. Educators can use S2N2 to make contacts and learn about funding sources for curriculum development and reform, special events, and professional development opportunities in science.

Museums, science centers, schools, libraries, planetariums, clubs, community groups and other organizations working to bring the excitement of science to a wide audience can count on S2N2 for help in defining and implementing projects and finding resources to carry them out.
